Over time, schools and educators saw investments made by students and families to have a successful school year, with new technology, such as A.I. (Artificial Intelligence. But how has A.I. made a change in schools so far? Will AI make a positive or a negative impact in schools?
According to an article released by EducationWeek, “K-12 schools reached $30 billion in spending on technology in 2024 and that amount is expected to grow in 2033,” writes Ariana Prothero (edweek.org).
This is a significant increase from the $8.4 billion spent on technology during the 2018-2019 school year. This could be due to a change in technological resources in our schools.
For example, schools have seen the transition of books and paper to chromebooks and OneScreens in the classroom and the introduction of apps such as Canvas and Schoology.
“In 2020, we launched an experiment, because we had no other choice in using technologies for teaching students of all ages…now in 2025, the NYT (New York Times) reports, “OpenAI,” the maker of ChatGPT has a plan to overhaul college education tools in every facet of campus life,” says Corey Robin, author of renowned four novels such as “The Reactionary Mind,” and distinguished professor of Political Science of Brooklyn College on Facebook.
As of 2025, 60 percent of teachers have already implemented the use of A.I. in the classroom. Whether it’s for lesson planning, gathering content, or creating classroom materials, teachers appreciate the time it allows them in order to bring their attention onto their students and instruction.
A.I. tools, such as ChatGPT, are already used by 86 percent of students across the globe. The Business Research Company expects the A.I. education market to increase by 41.4 percent between 2025 and 2029.
